meaning of nativity

meaning of Christmas?
"Christmas really honor these days? meeaning what is true of the birth of Christ? People seem to have very happy with the holiday, santa, shopping and wish lists. Is that all? seen today in a shopping center, a small stall with a huge Santa's reindeer deco .. I'm upset .. this is not good, I guess that in future we will not see any nativity scene at the mall more .. anyone agree? Is there any way improve this situation? MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL ..
I see and I agree. I read the article published meann, and is really bad. If someone tried to give Manora Hanuka would be one of pandemonium. A Christmas without God, against the general purpose of the holiday. Political correctness is all nonsense. I work for a radio station, every year, every person on staff has a holiday greeting to air. The suits told me not to say Merry Christmas in mine … I refused to do otherwise, Christmas is what we celebrate, if I met a Jewish friend I would say Happy Hanukkah (as a matter of fack I have a friend Jew to give him a gift for Hanukkah and she gives me a Christmas present). and I would expect them to tell me Merry Christmas. Finally gave up, and there were no complaints, people actually called me they liked to say Merry Christmas audience for a change. Is nice to get off topic. Back to Christ ceases to be at Christmas, we make sure to stay? Yes entirely in our own homes, no one can stop us there, and remember that is home the true meaning. I am aware of the disappearance of Jesus? totally out my door, but only if you hold will never disappear completely. Now when all this is I think Santa gets a bad reputation. Santa is not there to compete with Jesus, he is there to help him, Santa is like Robin. The message from Santa is supposed to bring is one of love, caring, and giving. So yeah the true meaning of Christmas has seemed to disappear, but so has the true meaning of the Holy

The Nativity $14.98 The Nativity is the very heart of the Christian tradition. For more than 2,000 years, the story of Jesus’ birth has been told and retold, mythologized and sentimentalized. In The Nativity, Geza Vermes untangles centuries of storytelling and places the birth and the events surrounding it within their historical context. Vermes examines every aspect of the Christmas story: the prophetic star, the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem, the miraculous birth in the stable, the arrival of the magi, and the murderous decree of Herod. Delving into all the available evidence—including the New Testament Infancy narratives of Matthew and Luke, Jewish documents of the period, and classical literary and historical sources—Vermes explains where actual history ends and legend begins. A masterful work of biblical scholarship, The Nativity penetrates the deeper meaning of the New Testament. By clarifying what belongs to real history and what derives from man’s hopeful and creative religious imagination, it gives readers a new and more powerful understanding of the events celebrated every Christmas season. |

Sister Wendy’s Nativity $3.98 Sister Wendy’s Nativity looks anew at the Christmas story and invites us to consider the true significance of Christ’s life. Her personal selection of over 40 beautiful paintings from manuscripts held by the Vatican and Italian State Libraries (many seen here for the first time) illustrate stories that are familiar to us all, yet whose significance is so often elusive. Sister Wendy begins the story by looking at the events that proceeded the birth of Christ–the Creation, the Garden of Eden, the Annunciation, the Visitation leading us to the Nativity story itself–the birth in the stable, the shepherds, the magi. The story continues with much-loved episodes from Christ’s time on earth–the Feeding of the five thousand, Peter walking on the water. The last Supper. Finally, she reflects upon the meaning of the crucifixion, resurrection and Christ’s eventual ascension into heaven to embrace eternal life. The charming, provocative and often humorous illustrations in this book are the testament of artists who dedicated their lives to producing paintings in praise of God. Sister Wendy blends her artistic knowledge with her spiritual insight in order to help us understand the meaning contained for all of us in their exquisite pictures. |
